High Speed video Camera Rentals utah
Check out one of the fastest cameras on the planet. Up to 1,000,000 Fps and its available now at Ron Hill Imagery.
Im sure that by now if you have any affiliation to this industry you’ve heard of the Phantom HD high speed video camera. But what you may not no is, that although this camera gets a lot of hype, and has plenty of name recognition, The Phantom Gold, the Phantom flex or the Phantom HD is not the only high speed video camera on the market. There is a High speed video camera manufacturing company named “Photron”. In 2009 the where given the title, “Creators of the fastest cameras on the planet”. They are responsible for epic high speed videography like what was scene on the BBC’s Series Planet Earth. Remember the shark scene, that was shot on the Photron Fastcam SA-1. This camera is able to dish out over 650,000 fps. Granted it only took 1000fps for the shark scene but maybe that can put into perspective how fast this camera really is.

Photron’s other cameras include The Fastcam BC2 Recently released at this years NAB2010. It offers full 1920×1080 at frame rates up to 2000fps. Thats over 500fps faster than Vision Research’s Flag ship camera the Phantom Flex, when shooting in full quality. Another High speed video camera is Photrons Fastcam sa-2, a camera Ron, owner of Ron Hill Imagery recently used on a shoot for CBS 48hrs. This camera was chosen because of its ability to gently degrade image quality/resolution in exchange for a tremendous leap forward in frame rates. At about 1.5x SD resolutions we were able to get upwards of 20,000fps, with a shutter of 156,000th/sec. The perfect speed for shooting less than a one inch per frame trajectory of a bullet in flight.

I think its worth mentioning that as an HD camera rental house in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ron Hill Imagery has formed a special relationship with Photron and can offer incredibly low prices on High Speed camera rentals as well as qualified high speed camera operators and Digital imaging technicians. That being said having the opportunity to not only witness this camera in action but also be trained and certified to operate this system was an absolute blast(pun intended). Not only is this camera ridiculously powerful but its workflow Is fast and offers an amazing amount of flexibility. After we wrapped shooting I took a copy of the footage back to our studio in salt lake city and played with it in post. The part in the post production process that i found the most entertaining was the ability to save each frame as a 16bit tiff and then batch process the images via Photoshop’s camera raw and/or Lightroom. You can also just as easily build an action in Photoshop and then batch apply it through Bridge or import a tiff sequence in AE.

NOTE: We will be posting some of the uncut footage after it airs on CBS 48hrs. Follow us on Twitter.com/ronhillimagery or Subscribe to our RSS to stay updated with whats happening around RHI.

The Photrons High speed Video camera system is very diverse and can be tailored to fit just about any workflow. It even has the capability to record to a Raw file format for manipulation and development later. All in all i can only say great things about these cameras. High speed video is becoming more and more apart of Video Production and Ron Hill Imagery is proud to say that we can supply a best of breed solution and certified personnel to Utah or anyone else interested In high speed videography.
